Admission Requirements and Procedure

The admission to the Bachelor of Architecture course is made on the basis of All India Engineering Entrance Examination/IITJEE main exam. The students have to qualify the basic requirements as per Central Counselling Board (CCB).

The admission to the Bachelor of Planning course is made on the basis of All India Engineering Entrance Examination. The students have to qualify the basic requirements as per Central Counselling Board (CCB).











    

Admission Procedure For Master Of Urban Design
After the scrutiny of forms submitted by candidates, based on the fulfilling of compliances mentioned in the application procedure, they will be called for interview at SPA Bhopal. The prospective students will have to undergo a written test and a group discussion followed by an interview in the end.

Admission Procedure For Master Of Landscape Architecture
The students called to appear for an interview should bring with them a Portfolio of works that would reflect the applicants' professional and/or academic experiences and interests. Portfolios shall be assessed according to proficiency in design, presentation and layout, technical skills, and content, similar to criteria used in design studios. Three letters of recommendation are required, and it is suggested that at least two of the letters come from former educators or academic contact.

Admission Procedure For Master Of Architecture(Conservetion)
After the scrutiny of forms submitted by candidates, based on the fulfilling of compliances mentioned in the application procedure, they will be called for a personal interview at SPA Bhopal. Students are required to present a portfolio which shall demonstrate their aptitude and experience towards Conservation and three letters of recommendation.

Admission Procedure For Master Of Planing(Urban And Regional Planing)
After the scrutiny of forms based on fulfilling of compliances mentioned in the application procedure, candidates will be called for a personal interview at SPA Bhopal. Students are required to bring three letters of recommendation and present a portfolio / document that demonstrate their aptitude and experience towards Urbana and Regional Planning.

Admission Procedure For Master Of Planing(Environmental Planing)
After the scrutiny of forms based on fulfilling of compliances mentioned in the application procedure,candidates will be called for a personal interview at SPA Bhopal. Students are required to bring three letters of recommendation and present a portfolio / document that demonstrate their aptitude and experience towards Environmental Planning and Management.

    

Doctoral Programme
School of Planning and Architecture offers doctoral degree in architecture and Planning. The broad objectives of the Ph.D. programme is not only to keep pace with the expanding horizons of knowledge but also to provide research and training that has a relevance to the present needs of the society in relation to social, cultural and environmental sustenance. The Ph.D. degree is awarded in recognition of the high academic achievement, independent research generation and application of knowledge to the solutions that focus on issue relating to settlement and habitat development.

The academic programme leading to the degree is broad based and involves a minimum course credit requirement and a research thesis. The school encourages research in interdisciplinary areas through a system of interdepartmental joint supervision. This provides excellent opportunities for interdisciplinary research. The presence of a strong research oriented faculty in the school provides excellent support for the doctoral programme.

QUALIFYING ENTRANCE FOR ADMISSION TO THE DOCTORAL PROGRAMME
The qualifying entrance of the doctoral programme at SPA Bhopal has three major components:

  1. The Application: Applications for admission in doctoral programme are invited once a year through an advertisement and a notice on website with the last date. Application forms and application guidelines are available on the SPAB website; the candidates need to apply in the prescribed format together with the copy of the documents. The applications are shortlisted on the basis of:
    • The candidates’ academic qualifications as mentioned in the advertisement
  2. The Entrance Test: All shortlisted candidates possessing necessary qualifications need to appear for an entrance test conducted by the institute, no one is exempted from this examination and also it is compulsory to pass the entrance test. Though all candidates appearing in the test will also appear for the interview, only those candidates who qualify the written test are considered for admission in the doctoral programme. The entrance test (please find syllabus Below) is conducted for the following:
    • Knowledge of his/her own discipline
    • Knowledge of Research Methods and Technical Writing
  3. The interview: All shortlisted candidates appearing in the entrance test will also appear for an interview. The candidates are expected to make a 08 minute presentation of their research proposal for the interview. Only those candidates who qualify the written test are considered for admission in the doctoral programme. The evaluation in the interview is done for the following:
    • The candidates’ academic ability, aptitude, and preparedness to carry out the doctoral research in the chosen area
    • The intent and content of the research proposal
SYLLABUS: ENTRANCE TEST
The entrance test for the doctoral programme conducted by SPA-Bhopal will be of three hours and of 100 marks. There will be eight questions and candidates will attempt five. The syllabus of the entrance examination is as follows:
  1. Knowledge of his/her own discipline: 40%
    • The potential candidates applying for the doctoral programme at SPA-Bhopal are expected to be up to date with the knowledge base of their own discipline. The questions will be based on the general understanding of their discipline and thorough knowledge of the subjects related to their own research proposal.
  2. Knowledge of Research Methods and Technical Writing: 60%
    • Introduction, definition, objectives and characteristic of research
    • Meaning of PhD, need, significance of PhD
    • Scientific method in research and basic postulates of scientific method.
    • Types of research: descriptive vs analytical, applied vs fundamental, quantitative vs qualitative, conceptual vs empirical.
    • Articulating enquiry and framing research questions in research
    • Research Process: problem formulation, literature survey, preparation of research design, determination of sample, data collection and analyses, generalization and interpretation.
    • Preparation of Report /Thesis- prefatory part, main body, supplementary part, referencing and bibliography.
